Wall of Artifacts & RISING PANELS

At the Armory Gallery in Park Rapids, MN August-September 2024, the mixed-media Wall of Artifacts and accompanying Rising Panels has become a non-linear timeline of memories and stories. It is evidence of life lived, arranged and connected to form a life of its own.

While repurposing and environmental concerns have been the focus of recent work, I am also circling back to some past themes about parenthood, aging, and ideas about pride and humility.  Last summer at workshops in Boston after creating the small Pear-a-dox felted wool and wire sculpture, I wrote the following, “Pears started in my work when expecting my first child. Now both ‘children’ are in college and yet the intense connection remains tethered to my heart and gut. The process of creating these two- and three-dimensional works was a process of self-discovery. Who am I now? What forms with wool, wire, and a vintage box? What happens when the boxed forms are photographed, digitally altered, printed large, and drawn and painted upon? As I disconnect from distractions and the past, I connect to the present to form, reform, and form myself again.
